Our purpose is to host a fundraiser for Leson Dunkley, a Boulder school teacher at BCSIS and her four children, Alys, James, Austin and Emma Hansen, ages 10 – 19, so the family may remain in their Boulder home while Leson undergoes a third round of chemotherapy. In conjunction with this effort, we are
attempting to break the Guinness World Records™

for the
"Largest Bicycle Bell Ensemble"
--the most people ringing their bike bells at once to a recognizable song for at least five minutes.

We are aiming for 1,000 people to meet Saturday, May 9, arriving between 3 - 3:45 p.m., with bike bell ringing at 4 p.m. at New Vista High School, on the northwest corner of Broadway and Baseline. Boulder should be the city that breaks this record, don’t you think?!
Only a bike bell is required to participate. You do not need to be on a bike, but bikes are welcomed of course. Don't have a bike bell? Please scroll down to the "Mirrycle" logo for information about purchasing a bike bell at the event.

Boulder County conductor, David Harris, BSE, MM, DMA will be instructing and leading us on the bike bells to some unforgettable tunes.

A donation of $10 is requested for participation in this GWR™ attempt. One hundred percent of proceeds will go to Leson and her children,

AND your donation will go even further because The Beanstalk Foundation, a local nonprofit, is providing a matching grant.

Donations can be made in two ways—with Paypal or with a check. If you use Paypal, please return to this website afterwards to register.

Leson is a well-loved Boulder Valley School District teacher, having taught kindergarten, fourth and fifth grades for the past six years. Her children have attended or are still attending New Vista High School, Boulder High School, the Watershed School, Manhattan Middle School, Centennial Middle School, Shining Mountain Kindergarten and Boulder Community School of Integrated Studies.

Leson was diagnosed with breast cancer one year ago, following the loss of her mother to breast cancer. She is currently undergoing her third round of chemotherapy and is in need of financial assistance.

You can further involve the community in which Leson’s family lives by forwarding the link to this website to local residents on your personal emails lists and to anyone with whom Leson’s plight would resonate. Leson is feeling very “held” by our community and is grateful for all of the support.

The Beanstalk Foundation is a public foundation set up to help promote generosity in local communities in a unique way.
Mission
To promote acts of generosity within our communities by supporting every day heroes, called Gardeners, with funding, education and administrative support.
Beliefs
Deep caring for others - for those we know and those we don't know, for those like us and those distant from us - is the source of what is best in life. It is the fundamental antidote to the unnecessary suffering of the world, both for those with too much and those with too little. Selfishness and searching for personal happiness by chasing objects of enjoyment is the root of unhappiness for ourselves and others.
The wish to benefit others is the lever that makes giving powerful. The actual scale of what one gives is less important than the caring and personal connection that it leads to. The mutual personal empathy, appreciation, and dignity in the generosity equation - the giver, the gift, the gardener, and the recipient - is the key to its power and depth of benefit.

Dr. David Harris is a Boulder County conductor, composer and singer. Over the past 15 years he has worked with groups of all ages and ability levels from teaching high school and elementary music in Birmingham, AL, to working with his current ensemble, the Boulder-based Jubilate, and composing music for a range of groups. He once also lead a group of 300 kazoos in Pachelbel's "Canon in D," so 1000 bike bells is a perfect fit for his talents! With Jubilate, David conducted the concert "I Want To Be Ready" in Carnegie Hall as part of a New York tour in 2008 and the live recording is now available on iTunes.

On May 22nd and 23rd, David will conduct professional musicians in the premiere of three of his new multi-movement works in the concert "Perish, the Thought." Some of the most renowned players in Boulder and Denver will join for this Colorado Musicians Consortium event. You won't want to miss being a part of the excitement of a world premiere in Boulder!
